Construction & Skilled Trades
I followed my family's trade into construction, taking on physical work across several specialties. That included two years working as a safety carpenter in Manhattan. The days could be long: I often woke at 5 a.m. for a 7 a.m. start and got home around 7 or 8 p.m. On one occasion I stayed to help with complications, arrived home after 11 p.m., and went back to work the next day. That experience taught me both the commitment construction can demand and the complexity of coordinating the stages and trades behind a finished structure.
Representative responsibilities
- 01Landscaping, hardscaping, painting, and drywall/sheathing work
- 02Residential carpentry and job-site safety carpentry
- 03Hands-on problem solving, tools, materials, and coordination on active sites
Respect for the work behind an outcome. Every stage has its own complexity, and a project works only when the stages connect.
